Everything about this magnificent instrument is substantial; from the sound to the massive cabinet with its beautifully hand carved legs and lyre. This was undoubtedly a custom piano for the wealthy elite at the time it was built – truly a one of a kind piano.

This piano has been rebuilt inside and out from having been refinished to receiving a new soundboard. The piano has been restrung and the action has been fitted with new hammers, shanks, flanges and whippens. The work on the piano is all top notch. It retains the wonderful charm of original keytops (not plastic) and the piano in its entirety represents the craftsmanship of a bygone era.

This is a wonderful instrument with the definitive 19th century American sound. Whether you’re playing Beethoven, Gottschalk or Chopin, this piano is capable of playing a sizable amount of repertoire with phenomenal results. This is a piano that would be ideal for someone looking for an instrument that represents the epitome of great, late 19th century American pianos.

As for the sound, it has one of the most impressive bass registers we’ve heard on a concert grand. For people who know classic Chickering pianos, once the largest producer of pianos in the United States, the tone is crisp in all registers with a treble section that is clear and projecting. The action is of medium weight and is very responsive. Our technicians have maintained the authentic voicing of the period and have performed fine regulation of the action for optimal performance.

If you’re looking for a piano that is a rare example of American craftsmanship in a fine musical instrument, this is one of the few examples available in the world today.
