If you’re looking for the quintessential Golden Era Steinway in a manageable size, this Model M delivers exactly what made these instruments legendary: a warm, complex singing tone, a surprisingly authoritative bass for its length, and that unmistakable Steinway “bloom” that seems to grow after the attack. The 5’7″ Model M has long been considered one of Steinway’s most satisfying home grands—big enough to sound like a real grand, yet compact enough to fit comfortably in many rooms.
Extensive, No-Shortcuts Restoration
This piano has undergone an extensive, no-shortcuts restoration focused on both musical performance and long-term stability. The case has been repaired and refinished in a beautiful satin lacquer, with the hardware cleaned and buffed for a crisp, elegant presentation. The plate has been repaired and refinished, and the visual details have been brought back to proper Steinway character with a replaced soundboard logo and replaced fallboard logo.
What’s Under the Hood
Just as important is what’s under the hood. The soundboard has been reworked and refinished, the bass and treble bridges re-capped, and the piano has been restrung with new bass and treble strings and new #2 tuning pins. A new custom pinblock anchors the tuning system, providing the dependable tuning stability serious pianists demand. The damper felt has been replaced, supporting clean releases and refined control, especially in softer playing.
Even the touch surfaces have been refreshed: the ivory keys have been polished to a jewel-like finish and the black keys refinished, giving the keyboard a clean, confident feel that invites long playing sessions.
