If you’re looking for one of the truly great American concert grands, this pre-Aeolian Mason & Hamlin Model CC is a rare opportunity. It has been masterfully rebuilt by legendary rebuilder Ken Hannah, widely regarded among the premier piano rebuilders in North America.

This instrument was restored with extraordinary thoroughness—from a new high-grade Canadian spruce soundboard (24 grains per inch) and new pinblock, to a completely rebuilt action, new key set, and new back action. The plate and case were refinished as well. The restoration was completed in the early 2000s, and the piano has been essentially unplayed since completion, preserving the integrity of the work and the freshness of the rebuilt components.
Since arriving here, our technicians have taken the piano to a true performance standard with concert-level regulation, voicing, string termination, damper regulation, and careful una corda pedal voicing, bringing it to the highest possible level of responsiveness, control, and tonal refinement.
The piano’s history is equally remarkable: it was originally purchased by the parents of Barry Goldwater, later donated to the Officers’ Club at Luke Air Force Base, and by the late 1950s became the performance instrument at Arizona State University. When Grady Gammage Hall was built in the early 1960s, the piano became available and was ultimately rebuilt by Ken Hannah.

And then there is the sound. A 9’4″ Mason & Hamlin concert grand is famous for its immense, full-bodied tone and authority in every register—powerful bass, a richly complex middle, and a singing treble that carries effortlessly. This restored CC offers an even feel from top to bottom, with a medium-light touch and a massive, orchestral sound that can fill a hall—yet still deliver nuance and color at the softest dynamics.
