At the time the model A was introduced in 1878, it was the smallest grand scale design offered by Steinway. Having been designed by C.F. Theodore Steinway, it was the first scale design to introduce the innovation of continuous, bent rim case construction which allows for a more resonant sound in a rock solid cabinet.
This is a wonderful opportunity to own a completely remanufactured Steinway from the Victorian era. The piano has been rebuilt from the ground up. It features a completely new action (front action and back action) with Renner parts (the company that makes actions for Hamburg Steinways), a new soundboard by Bolduc which is one of the finest available. The piano has been refinished in a gorgeous hand rubbedclosed pore rosewood finish. The piano is encased in a victorian cabinet with fireplug style legs. This was the standard cabinet design for the model A when it was first introduced although it is rare to find a piano like this today.
Our technicians have regulated and voiced the piano to an extremely high concert level in order to achieve top performance. The piano is a modern scale design that is fundamentally the same as Steinway pianos being manufactured today. The sound is rich with a vibrant bass and singing treble. If you’re looking for a piano that makes a statement both musically and aesthetically, this will fit the bill – a great piano ready to provide beautiful music for future generations!
