During the Golden Era of American piano building, Gulbransen was a highly regarded piano maker. The great news about this piano how well it has been cared for. A number of years ago the piano was restrung utilizing new tuning pins. It also has new damper felt, key bushings and front rail bushings. The case also was refinished.

Pianos like this are rarely made today. You may find Asian copies. But these instruments are nothing like the real thing. They use medium density fiberboard (MDF) in place of fine hardwoods – vacuum mold plate in place of the traditional wet sand cast plate – plastic action parts instead of traditional hand crafted wood parts – plastic (polyester) finish in place of hand rubbed lacquer finish as in this American made Gulbransen piano.

All of the technologies, materials and workmanship come together in an instrument that can last through the ages and provide a much higher level of playing experience as well as true hand carvings instead of wood moldings being glued on as in Asian production pianos.

Pianos like this are becoming increasingly rare every year and the cost of restoration could be prohibitively high. Not only that, but the quality of the results can be limited depending upon the history of the piano.
