Mason & Hamlin have been producing pianos in the United States since the 1800’s. They still hand-craft a limited number of pianos in Massachusetts. There are many things that set apart Mason & Hamlin pianos from any other piano. This is particularly evident with the model B baby grand.

This piano has had a gentle life and has been well cared for over the years. It still has the original, real keytops (not plastic) in good condition. This speaks volumes about the care and environment that piano has experienced. The piano was refinished a number of years ago and looks very good. The hammers show little signs of wear. The soundboard and bridges are in excellent condition.

What is so special about this piano is the rich, fat tone which the best Mason & Hamlins are famous for. What is remarkable is the sound that comes out of a piano of this size. Mason & Hamlin has several design elements that enable a piano of this size to produce a rich, full sound, and a bass typically heard in much larger pianos. The tail is wider allowing for more soundboard area. They also use thicker rims to help the soundboard resonate longer for a more sustained tone. They also have the patented Tension Resonator System.

Even if space isn’t an issue, this is a great piano for someone who appreciates a complex, warm sound out of a piano. The action has been regulated to respond to every nuance of touch, and can keep up with the fastest players. This is why people who know pianos seek out Mason & Hamlin pianos.
