Pre-Aeolian Mason & Hamlin Grand Piano 22060

We’re happy to offer this rebuilt, pre-Aeolian Mason Hamlin piano. The model A is as good as it gets for a piano of 5’ 8” and this one is a gem. It was just restored and the work included a new pinblock, restringing and refinishing. The original soundboard is in great shape and has excellent crown which is evident in the rich, projecting sound. The soundboard was also refinished to protect it from the elements in the years to come.

Mason & Hamlin goes back to the 1800’s and is one of the only companies still producing pianos in the United States. With the crash of the piano market with the advent of radio along with the Great Depression, many piano companies couldn’t stand on their own. The Aeolian Piano Company bought many venerable American piano companies including Mason & Hamlin in the early 1930’s. Many piano aficionados seek out Mason & Hamlin pianos manufactured before this time when they were still an independent company.

The action is original and in good condition with lots of good felt to work with. Our technicians have performed fine voicing and regulation for fine performance. The action has been regulated to play responsively and with a light touch. It is complemented by an exquisite set of original, real keytops (not plastic).

The tone is warm and full throughout all registers. The bass offers more than you typically get from pianos this size due to many design elements unique to Mason & Hamlin including their Tension Resonator System. The treble register has a projecting, singing tone which is the mark of a great piano. This is a fine musical instrument which will be an heirloom piano around for generations to come with proper care.
