This is a classic American piano in amazing condition. The piano has newer strings, tuning pins, hammers and other action parts. But what is really remarkable is the condition of the soundboard. Many pianos of this age have a lifeless sound. This piano has a vibrant, projecting tone, yet with the rich warmth of sound that Chickering is known for.

The piano has a solid responsive action which not all pianos from this vintage have. Chickering was the largest piano manufacturer in the United States in the 19th century and this is an excellent representation of what made them special. Not only that, but with a piano of this size, the sound is incredibly full, and never harsh.

The instrument has also been refinished not long ago and is very attractive furniture. The plate has also been re-gilded. The tuning is very stable at A-440. Owning this piano is like being transported back in time when the piano reined supreme. The wood available at that time and the craftsmanship was on a very high level. This is piano to be treasured.
