Kranich & Bach was one of the great piano companies from New York. They produced pianos from the 1860’s to the 1980’s. While not as famous as its New York competitor Steinway, there are many elements of these pianos that are similar to Steinway including
- Wet sand cast plate
- Solid, tight grained spruce soundboard
- Hardwood construction
- Duplex scaling
- Ebony lacquer finish
The sound is pure and the piano has a big rich bass. The action is a lighter style action which has been restored with new hammers, shanks, knuckles, key bushings, front rail bushings, key tops and string felts.
The piano was rebuilt this year with new pinblock, pins, strings and damper felts. The soundboard was refinished as well. The case was refinished with a gorgeous sprayed lacquer finish which is hand rubbed for the classic American look.
For a fraction of the price other hand-built American pianos, you can own a meticulously restored instrument of a size that produces a sound that can’t be achieved on smaller or lesser pianos.
