One of the most desirable pianos, Mason & Hamlin are still produced outside of Boston. Many people consider Mason & Hamlin pianos from this era to be among the finest American pianos ever produced. This instrument has been rebuilt and refinished to like new condition including the following new parts:

  • strings
  • pins
  • hammers
  • dampers
  • key bushings
  • front rail bushings

In addition, the case has been refinished, the plate has been regilded, the metal parts have been replated. The piano has been regulated, voiced and tuned to the highest standard.

Mason & Hamlin are often compared favorably to Steinway because of several reasons:

  • The wider tail allows for a bigger soundboard. This gives the piano the sound of a larger grand.

  • The piano has a patented tension resonator system, nicknamed, the spider. This substantial metal bracing underneath the piano supports the rim which makes the soundboard retain its crown for excellent tone on older instruments.

  • The piano is truly overbuilt. You can ascertain that simply by the fact that a Mason & Hamlin piano weighs about 50% more than other pianos including Steinway.

But it is the tone that makes people seek out these rare instruments. The tone is fat and rich with an immersiveness no other piano has. If you desire a concert grand sound but have limited space, this could be an excellent choice.
