Knabe was a pioneer in early modern piano building in the United States. Like their counterpart, Mason & Hamlin; they were generally over built and their quality is legendary.

This piano has been extensively rebuilt in recent years having been refinished and restrung. The action has also been completely re-manufactured with new whippens, shanks, flanges and hammers. The work is first rate achieving a high level playing performance like the piano had when originally manufactured. The tone is round and detailed and the action is fluid for optimal performance. The bass is thunderous with a tenor and treble register that are clear and sonoric.

The piano is beautifully appointed in columned empire style legs with brass hardware throughout.
